You can listen to 'The Man Who Spoke' on 33 B.C. I am not very interested in bootleg quality recordings, but I would absolutely LOVE to hear the unreleased studio recording of 'Before The Mirror'… As far as the other songs go, he suggested that they were never properly recorded, but there are live and/or rehearsal bootlegs floating around, which he is not happy with. He kindly responded to let me know that 'Before The Mirror' was recorded at the same sessions as the other songs from the single, but was never released.

The suggestion of basically a full length LP's worth of additional music from this group existing piqued my curiosity, so I poked around online for a while until I located the singer of the band, Bari Goddard (who is still very active musically and artistically, by the way,) and reached out to him to see if he could confirm or deny the actual existence of these songs. Two of the extra inserts have lyrics for an additional seven songs ('Foreign Waters', 'Whispered Sanctuary', 'Blades Of A Sunset', & 'The Other Room' on one insert, 'Before The Mirror', 'Of Gods And Men', ' & 'Role Of The Faun' on the other) and the other is a flyer for a live show dated December 17, 1980, at the Pontypridd YMCA in Wales. I love the production across both sides of this single, it's crisp enough to hear every element clearly, but not over-produced into a characterless polish.Ī strange thing about this record is that my copy came with three additional inserts, which don't seem to be included with most copies. 'The Man Who Spoke' is also excellent, with it's squealing guitars and punchy drums. 'Where He Stands' builds slowly and patiently, from an ominous bass line and sparse drums, colored by some synth and sound effects, into an excellent slice of thoughtful, expressive Post-Punk. Both sides of this single are top-notch, darkly tinged Post-Punk. Here's an outstanding, completely obscure one-off single from the Welsch group Blaue Reiter.
